Looking for someone like me
But someone enough like themselves
That they are nothing like me at all
They need to be smart
But dumb enough to get confused
When I ask them
Why the sky is blue
But red and purple too
Someone who cares about the big things
Like making sure the bills are paid and the fridge is filled
But about the other
Big things too
Like making sure six months from now
We plan to spend a week together
I am looking for someone who thinks
The little things are just a
Common courtesy
Like putting the lid back on the toothpaste
And taking out the trash if it is too heavy for me to lift
Taking your dishes to the kitchen
And cleaning up your own shit
But I also need someone that knows
What the real
Little things are
Like seeing you forgot to pack your coat
And just packing it for you...without a word
Or asking if you feel okay
When you get out of bed a little slow
Kissing your forehead
When you had a long day
And moving forward
Even on hard pavement
gravel
or dirt
I want someone that can share
In a mutual understanding
One that does not need words
Of commitment
Or stamp on the hand
Something we both just know is true
Something that does not need to be questioned
Real honesty
That never waivers
Even in times of mistakes and failures
A support system that is forever
Someone who wants to build an empire with me
One where we complete each others skill sets
Not compete
Working together to be the best we can be.
As separate people living their dreams
I want real love,
The kind you read about in books
The kind you write poetry about
The kind that gets you hooked
Wanted
The real thing this time
